One of theatre’s many powers is its ability to reflect the happenings of the outside world, illuminating events and societal trends, and even portending things to come. When “Cabaret” was written in 1966 we were only one generation removed from the biggest global conflict in world history, in which America and much of Europe battled down the forces of fascism and tyranny. The show explores the period leading to this tumultuous era, and now in 2024 as American democracy once again feels fragile and antisemitism is on the rise around the world, “Cabaret” is, unfortunately, quite topical.
Review: 2024 DPAC Rising Star Awards

The DPAC Rising Star Awards is a regional competition that brings together high school musical theater students from Central and Eastern North Carolina to perform and compete for the chance to represent the Triangle in The National High School Musical Theater (otherwise known as The Jimmy) Awards in New York City on June 24th. The national competition celebrates outstanding student performances in high school musical productions from all over the United States. This year, students from 31 local high schools submitted applications in the hopes of being selected as a Triangle Rising Stars' Top 20 finalist.

Reading of THE INVADERS Comes to Queens College in June

On Tuesday, June 18, at 7 pm, Queens College will premiere a designed reading of “The Invaders,” a play about the Freedom Summer Project of 1964—a voter registration effort in segregated Mississippi that drew Black and white volunteers from all over the country—and the Ku Klux Klan’s murder of participating activists James Chaney, then-QC student Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner.
