Breakdown

Available Roles:

EDDIE
30s. Male. Nick’s brother, Doris’ son. A desperately optimistic manager of a failing chain restaurant hell-bent on keeping it open. Earnest, warm, and gentle. Has lived in Pocatello his entire life and feels a deep connection to it, even as it slides into economic ruin.

NICK:
Mid- 30s- Early-40s. Male. Eddie’s older brother, Doris’ son, Kelly’s husband. Now a successful realtor, he eschews his small-town upbringing. He left Pocatello as soon as possible, and is very unhappy about being back home. Generally kind and well-meaning, but quick-tempered and caustic.

TROY:
Mid-30s- Early-40s. Male. An employee at the restaurant. Working-class and affable, if a little dark and depressive. After losing his job at a paper mill several years ago, his marriage has been in decline, and he shuffled between various minimum wage jobs before Eddie hired him at the restaurant. A life-long resident of Pocatello, and not very proud of it.

TAMMY:
Mid-30s- Early-40s. Female. Troy’s wife. A once happy, well-adjusted teenager, she got married too quickly and soon found herself leading a life she didn’t want. She always tries to put on a happy face, but finds it harder and harder to do so as her marriage and relationship with her daughter begin to crumble.

BECKY:
18+ to play 17. Female. Troy and Tammy’s daughter. Fiercely intelligent and empathetic, but completely unable to deal with the bleak world around her. As a result she has become a bitter introvert who would much rather be reading books about genocide than interacting with her parents

KELLY:
30s. Female. Nick’s wife. From an affluent family in the Twin Cities area. The child of a therapist, she has brought Nick back to Pocatello in an attempt to force him to confront some of his demons. Intelligent, empathetic, and well put-together. Submit all ethnicities.

The following roles have been CAST. Actors will be considered for possible replacements if needed:

DORIS:
60's. Female. Eddie and Nick’s mother. A no-nonsense, direct woman who has not had the easiest life, but who never complains about it. Her gruff exterior masks a large amount of pain.

COLE
80's. Male. Troy’s father. A Korean War veteran and life-long resident of Pocatello, who now lives in a retirement home and is slowly sliding into dementia. Pragmatic and crusty.

MAX:
Early 20's. Male. A recovering meth-addict employed at the restaurant. Well-meaning if a little goofy and naïve.

ISABELLE:
20’s. Female. An employee at the restaurant. Fun and easy going. A tad shallow on the surface, but underneath she’s well-adjusted and intelligent.
