Breakdown

LINES IN THE DUST
A World Premiere by Nikkole Salter, Directed by Reginald L. Douglas
Rehearsals begin the week of September 15th, 2014.
The Production runs from October 9th through November 9th, 2014, performances Thurs.-Sun.
About The Play:

When Denitra loses the charter school lottery for her daughter, she must find another way to escape from their underperforming neighborhood school. The answer seems like a risk well worth taking but may end up requiring a bigger sacrifice than she ever could have imagined. It's been exactly 60 years since Brown Versus The Board of Education. Lines In The Dust questions how far we've come and more importantly, where we go from here.

Seeking:

DR. BEVERLY LONG, Ed.D., PRINCIPAL
40s, African American mother and educator. The ex-Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the NJ Public School system, Dr. Long is aware of her accomplishments, but doesn't rest on her laurels. Equal parts tenacity and tenderness, her role as a black mother trumps her job as principal of a majority white school

DENITRA MORGAN
30s, African American college drop-out turned Certified Nurse Assistant at a retirement home. Fiery and determined, Denitra will do anything for her child. Her fighter spirit masks a vulnerable heart

MICHAEL DiMAGGIO, P.I.
a 60 year-old White Italian American grandfather. A retired police officer and freelance, licensed private investigator, Michael has a sense of humor that is sharp, biting, gruff, and genuinely funny. His charm masks his ability to go from calm to outraged at the flip of a coin

TILT THE UNLIT CANDLE
A World Premiere by Ben Clawson, Directed by Artem Yatsunov.

Rehearsals begin the week of November 10th, 2014.
The Production runs from December 4th through December 21st, 2014, performances Thurs.-Sun.

About The Play:
It's time for the annual Christmas Eve service in a small town at an even smaller church. Last year didn't go well, and this year isn't shaping up much better. The congregation is too old, the pastor is too young, and the choir is badly out of tune. Plus, there's a drunk who refuses to get off the church steps. Join these wacky revelers as they attempt to celebrate the holiday season and figure out just what the heck it is that they all seem to be searching for.

Seeking:

Brendan
Preacher. 20s. Verbal, funny, existentially distressed. Desperate to create something that means something.

Thad
40s-50s. A talkative drunk who takes up residence on the church steps. Could be homeless. Could be more than he seems.

Martha
Senior citizen. The un-official head of the congregation. Set in her ways. Not thrilled with the minister. Complains. Is a tad bigoted, but has almost a change of heart at the end. Almost.

Trisha
Early 20s. Atheist or agnostic or something. Doesn’t entirely understand what that means but is very opinionated about it. Wants to be anywhere else. Shows up with a joint.

Joel
20s-30. Jewish. Gay. Adopted. Good spirited, attending because his boyfriend is in the choir. Smokes a joint with Trish.

Freddy
40s. Church Deacon, head of the hospitality committee. Well meaning, but a bit obtuse.

Kathleen
late 20s. Pregnant, but only a month or two in. Concerned, overwhelmed. A touch cynical.

Sue
20s. A retail employee or very recently quit. Very recently. About ten minute before she walks on the stage. Furious. She’s worked retail the last 8 Christmases. Has a very dim view of the season.

A PERFECT GANESH
By Terrence McNally, Directed by James Glossman

Rehearsals begin the week of January 5th, 2015.
The Production runs from January 29th through March 1st, 2015, performances Thurs.-Sun.

About The Play:
A quest for meaning in their lives leads two outwardly unremarkable middle-aged women on a rousing tour of India, each one having her own secret dreams of what the fabled land of intoxicating opposites will do for the suffering she hides within. Faced with the women's despair, who but the golden elephant god could intervene? Fluid in his power to assume any guise, at peace with all things, Ganesha is the spiritual center around which the play spins itself, drawing upon the tragic and the comic, the beautiful and the deplorable, until a breathtaking release arrives for both women at his hands.

Character Breakdown:

Margaret Civil
50-60, Caucasian. Handsome. Uptight. Well-bred. (CAST. Actors will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.)

Katharine Brynne
50-60, Caucasian. Free spirit. Enthusiastic. Raised poor. Married well. (CAST. Actors will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.)

Man
African-American. Late 20s-mid-30s. Plays various characters along the journey to and in India and in the ladies' minds. Must be a versatile actor. Good with voices and accents with a good sense of comedy and language.

Ganesha
A Hindu God. Large rotund middle-aged Indian man (Note: actors of Indian Decent encouraged to audition)
