Theatre Forever, formerly Jon Ferguson Theatre, is a New Theatre Company, established with the primary aim of creating new work that is thought provoking, playful and totally accessible. An ever-evolving ensemble committed to exploring what it means to be alive through the creation and presentation of moving and poetic narratives.

Founder and Artistic Director Jon Ferguson is an award-winning theatre-maker who, in collaboration with the newly formed Core Artistic Company of Theatre Forever, is moving into the next phase of his work as a theatre-maker. Core Artistic Company members include; John Catron, Annie Enneking, Emily Gunyou Halaas, Sara Richardson, Dario Tangelson, Katie Weber, Allison Witham and Artistic Associate Katie Kaufmann.

“I am immensely excited about this next face of my work as a theater maker and director. The support and shared creative minds of a consistent, core collaborative team will enable the work to go further and for me to grow as an artist.” - Jon Ferguson

Theatre Forever’s premier production; A Bun for A Door Handle is a new and original piece of theater conceived and directed by Jon Ferguson and collaboratively created during the rehearsal and creation process with the ensemble. This is Jon’s second exploration of romantic love on stage after Jon Ferguson Theatre’s You’re My Favorite Kind of Pretty, which played at the Southern Theatre in 2008, created with Sara Richardson and Jason Ballweber.

Highly physical, visual and poetic, A Bun for a Door Handle will explore the relationship between the early desire and fantasy of an intimate, romantic love and, later on the journey, the reality of that love; what you imagine from afar and what you find to be the reality within. The journey of transformation from desperate lovers, to romantic live-mates, to loving passionate and compassionate deliberate companions; what you think it is, what it really is, and what it can become.

For A Bun for a Door Handle Jon Ferguson is collaborating, creating and performing with a company made up primarily of dancers. A Bun for a Door Handle features Katelyn Skelley (TU Dance), Ned Sturgis (TU Dance), Kaleena Miller (Rythmic Circus), Fenja Abrams, Caleb Hinz and Ryan Spencer (students of SPCPA). With collaborative creation support from Theatre Forever artistic company members John Catron and Katie Kaufmann and design by long time Ferguson collaborators Erica Zaffarano (set – Super Monkey, Animal Farm, Or The White Whale) and Lori Opsal (costume – Super Monkey, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow).

"A Bun for a Door Handle is a startlingly intimate portrait of a fractured love, rooted in the reality of everyday self doubts and petty communication breakdowns, but it is transcendent... you don't just know these people, you probably WERE these people at some point in your life."
John Catron (Core Artistic Company Member)

Jon Ferguson is from Durham in the Northeast of England. He trained at Middlesex University in London. He has worked with some of the leading physical theater and clown companies in the UK and US including Hoipolloi, Told by an Idiot, The John Wright Company, Trading Faces and Theatre de la Jeune Lune. Jon was named “2005 City Pages Artist of the Year”, and his production Please Don’t Blow Up Mr. Boban, with Live Action Set, was chosen by the Minneapolis Star Tribune as the “Outstanding Experimental Theater Production of 2005” and named “Best Stage Production” by the Minneapolis City Pages - Best of the Twin Cities 2006. Other awards for Jon’s work include: “Time Out London Critic’s Choice” For King Ubu at The Gate, London, “Sunday Times Ensemble Award” for Moby Dick at the NSDF Scarborough, “Best Comedy Award” for Shakespeare for Breakfast at the Victoria Fringe, “Twin Cities Daily Planet’s - Top Ten Play of 2008” for You’re My Favorite Kind of Pretty at the Southern Theater, “City Pages - Top 10 Play of 2008” for Animal Farm at the Southern Theater, “Twin Cities Daily Planet’s - Top Ten Play of 2010” for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow at the Jon Hassler Theater.
