The Guthrie Announces First-Ever Tweet Seats for THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS

The Guthrie Theater today announced that beginning December 27, the theater will offer its first-ever "Tweet Seats" during four consecutive Thursday performances of The Servant of Two Masters, allowing social media users an opportunity to interact during the show. A limited number of seats located in a balcony level of the McGuire Proscenium in a section that will not be disruptive to other patrons will be designated as Tweet Seats. Tweet Seat tickets are $15 and are available by calling the Guthrie Box Office at 612.377.2224, and mentioning "Tweet." Tickets are not available online, with other offers, or on previously purchased tickets. Handing fees may apply.

"If there were ever a Guthrie show to host Tweet Seats, it's The Servant of Two Masters," says Guthrie External Relations Director Trish Santini. "This cast is an incredible ensemble of comedians, and night after night they're riffing and improvising-it's the kind of show that makes you ask, 'Did they just say that?' Usually they did-and tweeting should be a great way to talk about it."

Direct from critically acclaimed runs at Yale Repertory Theatre and D.C.'s Shakespeare Theatre Company, The Servant of Two Masters has been lauded for its mastery of the spirit of commedia dell'arte, combining physical comedy and irreverent wit with a topical spirit that brings audiences palpably into its ribald spontaneity and high flung/lowbrow sensibility. The Star Tribune called it "a rollicking and fearless take on a classic tale." Aisle Say raved "the play has more in common with 'Saturday Night Live'" than it does with what you'd imagine from a classic comedy" and there are "slapstick bits that look so spontaneous that they seem unrehearsed." City Pages noted "The fast-paced comedy has touches of everything from the Marx Brothers to references to The Music Man and The Mary Tyler Moore Show."

The Servant of Two Masters is directed by Christopher Bayes. The cast includes Steven Epp (Guthrie: A Christmas Carol, The Caretaker; Theatre de la Jeune Lune: actor, writer, director, co-artistic director 1983-2008) as the wily servant Truffaldino and Guthrie favorite Sarah Agnew (Guthrie: Time Stands Still, The 39 Steps) as the strong-willed Beatrice. The cast also includes Liam Craig (Television: "Unforgettable," "Rescue Me"; Theater: Vineyard Theatre, Public Theater), Allen Gilmore (Arena Stage, Shakespeare Theatre), David Hanbury (Trinity Rep, Actors Theatre of Louisville; Local: Mrs. Smith Live), Chivas Michael (Off-Broadway: Lincoln Center Concert, Classic Stage Company), Jesse J. Perez (Television: "Law and Order," "Life on Mars"; Theater: Second Stage Uptown, Playwrights Horizons), Randy Reyes (Guthrie: M. Butterfly, A Midsummer Night's Dream), Don Darryl Rivera (Children's Theatre Company: Harold and the Purple Crayon; Seattle Children's Theatre), Adina Verson (Yale Repertory, Primary Stages) and Liz Wisan (Lincoln Center Theater: Other Desert Cities). The performance also includes musicians Carolyn Boulay and Aaron Halva.

The Servant of Two Masters continues performances through January 20, 2013 on the McGuire Proscenium Stage at the Guthrie Theater. Single tickets start at $34 and are now on sale through the Guthrie Box Office at 612.377.2224, toll-free 877.44.STAGE, 612.225.6244 (Group Sales) and online at www.guthrietheater.org.

The GUTHRIE THEATER (Joe Dowling, Director) was founded by Sir Tyrone Guthrie in 1963 and is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training. The Tony Award-winning Guthrie Theater is dedicated to producing the great works of dramatic literature, developing the work of contemporary playwrights and cultivating the next generation of theater artists. With annual attendance of nearly 500,000 people, the Guthrie Theater presents a mix of classic plays and contemporary work on its three stages. Under the artistic leadership of Joe Dowling since 1995, the Guthrie continues to set a national standard for excellence in theatrical production and performance. In 2006, the Guthrie opened its new home on the banks of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie Theater houses three state-of-the-art stages, production facilities, classrooms and dramatic public lobbies. www.guthrietheater.org
