Ordway To Present at The 72nd Annual Conference for Community Arts Education in Minneapolis

Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is presenting at this year's Conference for Community Arts Education, which will be taking place in Minneapolis. As part of the Conference's Partners in Excellence: Arts Partners Education Institute on Saturday, Ordway and the Saint Paul Conservatory for the Performing Arts will be discussing their collaboration on their Field Experience Initiative.

In a presentation session titled A Case Study in Communication: Practices that Ensure Understanding, Flexibility and Agreement, Shelley Quiala and Kirstin Wiegmann from the Ordway, Terry Tofte from the Saint Paul Conservatory for the Performing Arts, and Becca Barniskis and Bettine Hermanson, both Arts Education and Integration Coaches will talk about engaging students in learning about arts management.

72nd Annual Conference for Community Arts Education
Strategies for sustaining arts education programs and organizations through tough economic times and for building a strong future for arts education in America will be key topics at the 2009 Conference for Community Arts Education at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, November 11-14, 2009 (www.communityartsed.org).

Presented annually by the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts, the Conference for Community Arts Education is the preeminent gathering of community arts education leaders in the United States. More than 250 delegates-leading 175+ community arts education organizations in over 34 states, Bermuda, Canada and Spain-are expected to convene at this year's meeting.

The conference is the only national event that addresses the specific interests and needs of community arts education providers. These organizations are non-profit, community-based institutions dedicated to making high quality, sustained arts instruction accessible to people of all ages, aptitudes and backgrounds. Minnesota providers include MacPhail Center for Music, Minneapolis; Highpoint Center for Printmaking, Minneapolis; Steppingstone Theatre for Youth Development, St. Paul; North House Folk School, Grand Marais; Fine Arts Academy of the University of Minnesota Duluth; and many other organizations.

For a detailed program, schedule and registration information, visit http://www.communityartsed.org or by call (212) 268-3337 x 10.

Major conference sponsors include the National Endowment for the Arts, MetLife Foundation, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, The NAMM Foundation, Minnesota State Arts Board, The Wallace Foundation, The Barthelmes Foundation, National Music Certificate Program, Smart Music, and others.

THE NATIONAL GUILD OF COMMUNITY SCHOOLS OF THE ARTS supports and advances access to lifelong learning opportunities in the arts. Our 400+ members include community schools of the arts; arts centers; performing arts organizations; and community arts education divisions of universities, museums, and others. In concert with this dynamic network, the Guild researches and promotes best practices, provides opportunities for professional development and dialogue, advocates for broad access, and makes grants to the field. For more information, visit www.nationalguild.org.

ORDWAY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
The Ordway celebrates its 25th anniversary season as one of the nation's leading not-for-profit performing arts centers and Saint Paul's most elegant and inviting performance space. The Ordway's Main Hall and McKnight Theatre stages attract diverse audiences with an array of productions showcasing the finest in American musical theater, world music, jazz, dance, and vocal performance. Education and community engagement are integral to the Ordway's mission, with major initiatives including the annual Flint Hills International Children's Festival and Ordway Education programs that serve over 50,000 students annually. The Ordway also sponsors the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, a professionally guided academic and artistic environment that trains aspiring pre-professional performing artists. Together with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Opera and Schubert Club, the Ordway is a member of the Arts Partnership and serves as the principal venue for their performances.
