BWW Reviews: Circus JuventasÂ' SHOWDOWN Wows Audiences with Pint-Sized Performers

Circus Juventas, a non-profit circus school for youth in the Twin Cities, puts on seasonal shows for the public. This summer their performance was SHOWDOWN. It was a goofy, whimsical, death-defying production under their very own big top. For those of you who haven't been to a circus lately you may think of it only as juggling, popcorn and creepy face paint. Not so! Okay, you will find your fair share of juggling, salted snacks and painted-on smiles BUT the show also features trapeze acts, high-wire balancing, contortionists and other unimaginable stunts.

This performance features a Wild West theme complete with voiceovers, plot line, gold rush juggling acts and, of course, daring shoot-outs. The spectacular is three hours long and includes an intermission so it's probably not for those who are faint of heart or short on time.

Circus Juventas performances are not quite like the professionals… but they're pretty close. Sometimes their silks routines are a bit out of sync and sometimes the show features dance routines from younger kids who are still mastering stunts. Despite this, the performance is very impressive.

The featured performers of the show (older kids who have been training for a while) are captivating and the major acts are incredible. The show includes the Walendas' spectacular seven person tightrope walk as well as flaming whips, balancing acts and unicycle stunts.

The biggest drawback of the spectacular is the petty issue of seating. Traditional bleacher-style seats with meager cushions offer sore rumps for all. The aching buttock situation is only exacerbated by the fact that you'll be on The Edge of your seat for most of the show.
